Penang Food Tour

We have finally made it to Penang. The eating capital of Malayisa. I am a HOOGE foodie, and a big part of this trip was to eat eat eat and try different asian cuisines and learn new tastes to add to my own cooking. Penang is famous for its Char Koay Teow, which we wasted no time to get. The first plate of food that went into all of our bellies was fried koay teow.

It was ok, but we were so hungry we just picked the first place we saw.

Things have only gotten better since. We stumbled upon this crowded lunch spot.. and what do you do when you see a restaurant packed full of locals eating? Well you go in, walk around to see what everyone has on their tables and order the same thing. Duh. It was perfectly charred, sweet, and juicy Char Siu rice. I never had char siu that was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Later last night we hit the bars on Love Lane for some live music and beer towers. I left the boys a bit earlier because I had seen a busy Soup Kambing place that I wanted to try on the way home. I got second helpings for free because the guy at the stall was asking me why I was there alone so late. lol. I wanted to try your soup!

It’s a bit blurry because I was kinda drunk when I took this.. but whatever.

This morning we rented bikes and rode around a bit. The traffic is heavy here and no one really obeys the stop signs, plus there are so many one way streets it is confusing to navigate.. and especially on wheels. We didn’t make it very far before stopping to try some Hokkien Mee. Penang is also famous for their hokkien mee, and I don’t think I have ever had any in my life, despite being from Singapore.

The eating tour is not over! I have so many more points on my map to try before we leave and I have signed up for a cooking class with a nice lady at her home. So stay tuned for more nom-ness.
